The food is heavier than anyone warns you about and the wine makes up for it. Lello was the one disappointment — a queue and a ticket to stand in a bookshop where you cannot really look at the books. Everything else was excellent.

Douro and the coast · 12–21 May 2023Better than Lisbon for what I do. The city stacks vertically along the river so every street gives you a frame for free, and the fog comes up the Douro most mornings before eight. Four days was not enough.
